Gassing geese is inhumane because before the geese die from asphyxiation, the geese experience prolonged immense suffering, pain and distress, for up to 45 minutes, finally resulting in a cruel death.

There has not been a properly executed egg and nest destruction program around a lake, which experts highly recommend, for a period of at least 5 years to effectively reduce the number of geese around the lake.

Scientific studies do not support the conclusion that geese actually transmit any diseases or pose a health risk via the lake water to families or pets.

Homeowners have not signed the current DNR petition form which informs that all geese will be killed.

There has not been a verification that 70% of the current lakeshore homeowners have actually signed a petition that agree to killing the geese by cruelly gassing them to death.

There are lakeshore homeowners who are still using an old septic system, uninspected for years, which leaks dangerous human E. coli bacteria contamination into the lake causing a dangerous health hazard where children play and swim.

The lake water has never been tested to determine whether geese excrement or human sewage from failed septic systems is the source of E. coli bacteria contamination in locations of a lake causing beaches to be closed.

Effective nonlethal measures are not being implemented, such as landscaping and habitat modification, creating riparian buffers along the shoreline and planting dense vegetation with landscaping/tall grasses at the edge of the water. Such measures prevent the runoff of any contaminate from lawns into the lake which improves the water quality. It is also an effective long-term measure to making properties less attractive to geese. Many other effective nonlethal applications are available to deter geese from coming on lakeshore properties.
